Equatorial Guinea joins PALOP forum as full member

Addis Ababa, ANGOLA, February 11 - Equatorial Guinea is set to become a full member of the Forum of the Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP) in the wake of a decision adopted Monday at the 2nd Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the organisation, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. ,

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 32nd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

The meeting recommend the Heads of State and Government of the Forum to ratify the application for membership by the Equatorial Guinea.

 

Convened by Angola, as chair of the Forum since 2014 under the Foreign Minister, Manuel Augusto, the meeting also recommended the ratification of East Timor's application as an observer member state.

The meeting was opened on Sunday by the president of the continental organisation, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

The event conveyed information on the political, economic and political situation of each member state of the PALOP Forum.

Despite political stability among member countries, there is still much to be done in terms of economic field, especially in the area of ​​macroeconomic stability, increased opportunities, measures to foster domestic production and diversify export.

As for the Addis Ababa meeting, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs of Cabo Verde, Fernando Freire, told the Angolan press that the PALOP Forum is now more focused on the main challenges of the countries for their affirmation in the concert of the nations.
